Though the box score simply calls this play a "two-yard touchdown" for Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, this description does not come close to capturing the essence of one of the best plays of this season's Divisional Round. On first-and-goal from the two-yard line, the Lions quarterback dropped back off play action, dodged the initial pass rush, and then tossed a hopeful pass to the end zone as he was getting hit. LaPorta answered the call, diving and sticking out one hand to make a spectacular grab while maintaining possession to the ground, giving Detroit back an early lead. LaPorta caught six passes for 51 yards and one touchdown in this one, but the Lions would go on to fall to the Commanders, 45-31, on Jan. 18, 2025.
