Searching his bag of tricks for a bit of “Minshew Magic” with the Las Vegas Raiders trailing late, Gardner Minshew II found that his chase of the Chargers on the scoreboard would require escaping a pursuit of his own. Aware of his surroundings, the sixth-year quarterback negates Los Angeles’ fierce five-man rush by stepping forward in the pocket, setting his path for a downfield throw that cashes in for 33 yards. The Raiders’ comeback attempt would ultimately fall short in a 22-10 loss in Week 1 on Sept. 8, 2024. Minshew, though, settled upon history, going 25-of-33 — the highest completion percentage by a quarterback in a Raiders debut — alongside 257 yards and a touchdown.
