In an unforgettable game that was dominated by two elite defenses, five-time Pro Bowl defensive back Jake Scott stood out above the rest as Miami and Washington battled admirably against each other in Super Bowl VII. Early in the second quarter, Scott made one of the most spectacular interceptions in NFL history, leaping high to get his hands on the ball before making a diving, one-handed interception before the ball fell to the turf. Later, with the Dolphins clinging to a two-score lead as time dwindled in the fourth quarter, Scott picked off a third down pass in the end zone and ran it back 55 yards to not only put an end to the Washington scoring threat, but set the Dolphins offense up with spectacular field position. For his efforts, Scott was given Super Bowl VII MVP honors, as the Dolphins would go on to win this one, 14-7, on Jan. 14, 1973, to secure their place as undefeated NFL champions.
